Bumpkin: Week 8 Update

Sunday 22/02/15

How far along? 8+4

Total weight gain: I gained a pound last week and I'm now 8st 13lbs.

Maternity clothes?  None yet. Thankfully we have been provided with new uniforms at work which are much more roomy!

Stretch marks?  None *touches wood*

Sleep:  Still loving it! Averaging 10-11hrs a night.

Best moment this week:  Seeing our gorgeous little jellybean at our scan today and watching its lovely little heart beating away! Also knowing that it is measuring exactly on point :)

Worst moment this week:  Being served a ridiculously small portion of macaroni at our hotel stay on Friday. This ravenous preggo lady was not impressed!

Miss anything?  I really hated not being able to order haggis with our breakfast fry-up yesterday at the hotel. It was even worse watching OH devour a huge portion in front of me. Meanie :(

Movement:  None

Food cravings:  Chicken mayo baguettes from Greggs

Anything making you queasy or sick:  Hmm not that I've noticed this week

Gender:  Not known

Labor signs:  None

Symptoms:  Just the same as last week
Belly button in or out?  Very much in!

Happy or moody most of the time?  So so happy now that it has been confirmed that there is a healthy little baby growing in there! Although have been struggling with my workload and hours at work which has been getting me down a bit.

Looking forward to: My booking appointment with the midwife on Tuesday to get things rolling and having an extra day off work this week to just chill and catch-up with things at home.

Bumpkin: Week 7 Update

Monday 16/02/15
How far along? 7+5

Total weight gain: No change this week. Still 8st 12lbs, 3lbs less that when I started.

Maternity clothes?  No- but can't button up my work trousers now eek! Luckily I can get the zip up and I'm just wearing tank tops underneath which are slightly longer to hide it.

Stretch marks?  None *touches wood*

Sleep:  Still the same. In bed almost straight after dinner most nights and sleeping through til 7am with one trip to the toilet through the night.

Best moment this week:  Starting to see my little bump form :)

Worst moment this week:  Waking up on Friday 13th (typical) and being unable to move my neck! Not in the normal 'I've slept funny and have to wait until it loosens' way, but actually unable to move or sit up. Cue much panicking about ectopic pregnancy, ruptured fallopian tubes and collapse but after plenty of research I came to the conclusion that if the pregnancy was ectopic and had ruptured I'd have a hell of a lot more symptoms that that. Apparently shoulder tip pain is very much situated there and not anywhere near the neck so I decided to wait it out and luckily the matter fixed itself within a day. Weird experience though!

Miss anything?  Not being constantly worried. I suppose I've signed up for worry for at least the next 18 years though ;)

Movement:  None

Food cravings:  Dairylea!

Anything making you queasy or sick:  After being all about the wotsit last week I now can't stand the thought of them!
Gender:  Not known

Labor signs:  None

Symptoms:  Boobs are now spilling out of my bras. After all those years of wishing for bigger boobs and now I hate them! Bump beginning to form, sore boobs, still starving, thirsty and tired.

Belly button in or out?  In

Happy or moody most of the time?  Happy but constantly worried. We are going for a private early scan next week which will hopefully give me a little reassurance.

Looking forward to:  Our night away at a spa hotel and our 8-week scan next week.

Bumpkin: Week 6 Update

Monday 09/02/15

How far along? 6+5

Total weight gain: Another pound off since last week. Now 8st 12lbs. Although god knows where I'm losing it from as my belly and boobs have most definitely got bigger!

Maternity clothes?  None, although my work trousers are becoming uncomfortably tight and I'm beginning to see my bloated tummy through lots of my clothes, although my boyfriend assures me no-one else can.

Stretch marks?  None (yet!)

Sleep:  Still can't get enough! Averaging around 11hrs on a weeknight, 12-14 at the weekend. No partying for me as I can't stay up past 8pm haha!

Best moment this week:  Having my first pregnant night out and driving into town and back. No standing freezing at the taxi rank for me! And being the sober one watching what everyone else gets up to.

Worst moment this week:  Having a horrendous virus which left me with a terrible headache, achy joints and muscles and no strength (I couldn't even get the handbrake off in the car!) Thankfully this has now eased into a cold which is much more manageable!

Miss anything?  Prawns, salmon (can't stomach the smell of it) and of course runny eggs.

Movement:  None

Food cravings:  I had my first proper craving this week... wotsits! I could have cried I wanted them so bad, and normally they are my most hated crisp. I did eventually get some and they were sooo good!

Anything making you queasy or sick:  Salmon, raw meat, mushrooms (really hoping this passes quickly as I'm normally a mushroom fiend!)

Gender:  Not known

Labour signs:  None

Symptoms:  Exhaustion, hunger, thirst, sore boobs and nipples (although easing off), boob growth, spotty skin (grr) although less greasy hair (yay). My bloat is now definitely turning into something as when I try to suck it in, only the top half goes in, while the bottom doesn't budge. I'm loving it and can't wait to get a proper bump :)

Belly button in or out?  Still in.

Happy or moody most of the time?  Have been quite up and down this week due to feeling poorly with the virus.

Looking forward to:  Valentine's Day this weekend :)

Bumpkin: Week 5 Update

Mon 02/02/15

How far along? 5+5

Total weight gain: I actually lost two pounds last week despite being such a hungry hippo and I'm now 8st 13lbs. Just shows you have to listen to your body as the energy is obviously being put to use!

Maternity clothes?  No, but still mega bloated in the tummy region.

Stretch marks?  None

Sleep:  Can't get enough of it!  Feeling completely and utterly exhausted constantly.

Best moment this week:  Having my boyfriend back to run about after me after a stag weekend away ;)

Worst moment this week:  Probably managing the hunger and tiredness at work as I'm constantly on my feet running about.

Miss anything?  Still runny eggs. Smoked salmon now too.

Movement:  None

Food cravings:  Lots of savoury carbs still.

Anything making you queasy or sick:  The smell of raw meat. I have to walk past a butchers on the way to work every morning. Bolk! Having to take a deep breath and practically run past now.

Gender:  Not known

Labor signs:  None

Symptoms:  Exhaustion, sore boobs and nipples, cramping, bloating, extreme hunger, getting up through the night to pee which I never used to do, very low blood pressure (measured recently by the Dr).

Belly button in or out?  In and hoping it stays that way as long as possible.

Happy or moody most of the time?  Happy until it gets close to bedtime then you'd better watch out!

Looking forward to:  My booking appointment at 8 weeks to get the ball rolling with antenatal care.

Bumpkin: Week 4 Update

Mon 26/01/15

How far along? 4 weeks and 5 days! We found out on Saturday at 4+3 :)

Total weight gain: None. My starting weight is 9st 1lb.

Maternity clothes?  No, and hopefully not for a while yet although I'm ridiculously bloated!
Stretch marks?  Nope

Sleep:  Just the same as before thankfully although have been having crazy baby dreams for the past couple of weeks which was actually one of my first symptoms.

Best moment this week:  Finding out and telling Daddy. A moment I'll always cherish :)
Worst moment this week:  Having to turn down scampi (my go-to pub dinner).

Miss anything?  Runny eggs! I loooove them and have them all the time. I think this will be my biggest miss throughout the pregnancy.
Movement:  None

Food cravings:  I think it's too early for cravings but have been leaning towards savoury food in a big way. Haven't touched sweets, biscuits or chocolate since before I found out.

Anything making you queasy or sick:  If I go too long without eating as I'm ridiculously hungry! As in starving after a couple of hours. Light-headed, shakes, nausea, the whole works. I hope it calms down or else I'll be the size of a small hippo soon!

Gender:  Not known

Labour signs:  None

Symptoms:  Cramping on and off (although different from period cramps), sore boobs, sensitive nipples, bloated tummy, extreme hunger, nauseous when hungry and obviously no period!

Belly button in or out?  In

Happy or moody most of the time?  Super super happy, but grumpy when overtired!
Looking forward to:  Having a baby!

Bump (Bloat):

Two Pink Lines

On the 24th January 2015 our lives changed forever when this happened....

Finding out we were going to have a baby was a massive surprise! We hadn't planned it and I completely pushed the possibility out of my head with every symptom that popped up until it became too obvious to ignore.

After the initial shock wore off and it began to sink in (although I don't think it will ever fully sink in until I have to push this little person out!) we realised that we have the means to support a mini human as much as the next person can. Now nine weeks on, we are super excited to meet our little Bumpkin and embark on the crazy adventure of parenthood!

As soon as I found out about my pregnancy I knew I wanted to create a memory of the journey so will be doing weekly updates. I know the majority of pregnancy blogs start these at the 12 week mark, but I've been preparing mine since I found out at four weeks because I didn't want to just forget about my first trimester, and you never know, other people might find it helpful to have someone else's account of those first (long and hard!) weeks. I'll be publishing weeks 4-12 daily after this post, and we'll resume the normal weekly update schedule after that :)

I hope you enjoy following our progress!

February Favourites

Since moving house at the beginning of December, it has been one thing after another in terms of spending pennies, which has not only been painful but also mighty boring. I've been on a spending ban since the beginning of January, hence this month's favourites are cheap-as-chips. Finally the house is sorted and we're able to loosen the purse strings slightly, so I'm looking forward to some nice treats in March, yay!

First up is the Natural Collection Eye Lines pencil in green. I had wanted something to help create a festive eye to pair with my LBD for Christmas parties but didn't want to spend too much because I thought I wouldn't get much use out of it. However, nearly three months on I'm still using it a few times a week. Surprisingly, the formula is creamy and highly pigmented with enough staying power to last an entire night out with no touch-ups. Most definitely worth more than it's £1.99 price tag. I actually have the black one on my list to pick-up on my next shopping trip, with the intention of hopefully being able to replace my Urban Decay 24/7 pencil for everyday wear.

My go-to Winter nail colour recently has been the Seventeen Gel Colour in Blackcurrant Bomb. Formula-wise, these are comparable to the Barry M Gelly Hi-Shines, giving roughly 5-6 days wear with a decent base-coat underneath. It's the colour that has had me hooked though: a gorgeous deep plum that suits my skintone both with and without fake-tan.

I had seen a few posts recently praising the Primark range of make-up brushes and tools, and as I was about to treat myself to the Shu Uemera eyelash curlers I thought it might be worth giving those ones a try and saving myself a fair few pennies. Now, I've never had the pleasure of trying the Shu Uemera curlers so I can't give you a comparison, but what I can say is that the Primark ones might well be the way to go if you're on a budget/new to eyelash curlers/sensible. These make an amazing difference with no effort, and are certainly better than any other drugstore curlers I've tried, even the heated ones (warning: do not use these with a few pre-drinks inside you. Ouch)

My final favourite is one I've loved for years, but forgot how much until I got it again at Christmas. D&G L'impĆ©ratrice was part of the Dolce and Gabbana collection that was a big thing a few years ago. You remember the one with all the numbers, three male and three female fragrances? Well no.3 is the only one that has stuck around, and with good reason. This is a super fruity, fresh fragrance, with notes of rhubarb, redcurrant and grapefruit.  Every day I wear it, someone asks me what I'm wearing, even hours later, which is a true testament to a perfume. My only critique would be that the bottle is too plain to do it justice, and it's easily overlooked on the shelf- but then I suppose that means you're in less danger of everyone wearing the same perfume as you! ;)

Well that's it! Hope you all have a great month!

What's Your Number?

Source: www.sabkitube.com

Apparently the average woman uses twelve products a day. I assumed this was make-up, until I read on and realised that includes everything- deodorant, shower gel, the lot. So I started counting, and kept counting, and counted some more until I had totalled up all of the products I use on a regular day... drumroll please... 28!

I couldn't believe it! I've always thought of myself as fairly minimal but obviously I've been in denial! Especially when I asked my boyfriend to do this and his grand total was six!

Benefit High Beam highlighter

Well I think that's everything! Gosh seeing it all written down really emphasises how reliant I am on certain products, but hey, there are worse things you could do than use an abundance of pretty and yummy smelling products on a daily basis right?

What's your number?
